FitFlop sandals started life in 2007. They were the brainchild of Marcia Kilgore, a Canadian entrepreneur who, at that time, was living in London.
As a busy businesswoman who understood the value of exercise (she is an ex-personal trainer), she knew how difficult it was for many women to fit exercise into their schedule. Competing priorities, family, work, social life, make regular exercise something that's easier said than done for many of us.
She partnered with bio-mechanical specialists at the London South Bank University to develop a shoe with a specially designed sole - one which introduced an element of instability into the walking process. the idea was that the muscles in the lower body would react to the instability by trying to restore the body's natural equilibrium, thereby doing a little extra work whilst walking.
The special sole also provides great support to the wearer's foot and helps to distribute body weight more evenly across the sole of the foot/shoe. that makes FitFlops very comfortable to wear.
That's how FitFlops were born. They started life as a range of trendy sandals (see below), but the range has since been expanded to include boots, clogs, sneakers, ballet flats and even slippers.
Have a look at some of the sandals on offer below. They are chic and fun - and incredibly comfy to wear.
